Walk our City of Firsts

We’ve created the UK’s first fully interactive walking tour powered by augmented reality, which is all about pointing your smartphone camera at the world and seeing things that aren’t physically there.

You can find our City of Firsts plaques all over Manchester. Just look for the big green hexagons with a massive ‘1’ on the front, discoverable across Manchester from the city centre all down Oxford Road. You can’t miss them.

Even better: they’re made from materials inspired by Manchester’s rich history of music, media and fashion. The faces are recycled CDs and DVDs and the bases are made from old shoes and other plastics.

The tour includes multiple Manchester firsts for you to discover, including the first ever meeting of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce and consequent formation of Rolls-Royce, the splitting of an atom, the Suffragettes movement in 1868 and the creation of a blueprint for smart cities globally.

Download our Buzzin app (it’s available on Apple and Android), find a plaque, follow the instructions on your phone and watch your tour guide come to life.
