Join us behind the scenes of the UK’s Smart City IoT Demonstrator

Hasn’t time flown? It’s now two and a half years since Manchester was first selected by Innovate UK to be the UK’s Smart City IoT Demonstrator, with a a brief to showcase how internet-connected technology and data can be used to transform a city.

Since then, it’s fair to say we’ve been pretty busy.

The CityVerve project was designed to highlight what can be made possible through the application of new IoT-based technologies within a city. We set out to demonstrate this across sectors as diverse as transport, energy, health and culture.

Now, it’s time to share what we’ve learned.

That’s why, on Wednesday the 20th of June, we’re hosting our very own CityVerve Marketplace. It’ll be a day-long event which brings together all the partners involved in our smart city demonstrator with the sole focus of sharing our discoveries with you. It’s not just Manchester that will benefit from our experiences.

At Marketplace, we’re giving each of our project themes its own dedicated area – so one each for Culture & Public Realm, Energy & Environment, Health & Social Care, and Travel & Transport.

We’ll also have zones that explore the infrastructure ‘under the hood’ of the project and our Open Innovation activities.

In each of these areas, our partners will be showcasing how their technology works in practice, and the role it can play in making the smart city a reality – giving you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the areas most relevant to you, your city and your business.

We’ll also be holding special breakout sessions throughout the course of the day, to lift the lid even further on each of our focus areas.

We’re excited to be joined not only by the businesses behind the technology we’ve been working with, but also a packed line-up of speakers who will share the insights they’ve drawn from their own participation in the CityVerve journey. We’ll hear on the day from Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, Rowena Burns, Chair, Manchester Science Park & Manchester Corridor Board, and Nick Chrissos, Director of Innovation, Europe, at Cisco.

Whether you’re embarking on your very own smart city project, or looking at the application of a specific technology, this event promises to bring together tangible and transferable learnings with inspiring, pioneering demonstrations of IoT.

We are open now for registration and would love to see you there! Simply head over here to begin the sign up process.
